The vote to limit and control discussion of issues at the Feb 11 2019 Portsmouth Town Council meeting is disturbing for the people they are representing. The council Presidents power was reduced and he was effectively neutered. His discretion on content and time limit for a particular subject has been taken out of his judgmental control. The further intimidation of citizens without free time, not skilled in research, writing, and public speaking will make it difficult for the average citizens voice to be heard.

This is NOT how a “transparent” government should be conducted. The meeting was well attended, no one spoke in agreement for this control but eight average citizens including myself spoke in opposition to this control. Ignoring the majority as has happened at this meeting and voting as they wish [not the first time for this] goes against the will of the people. Perhaps some sort of hearing aids could be provided. This new council has darkened the brightness of ‘Transparency’ by their action.

This goes against the principals of American democracy to listen and be heard. It is a sad day for Portsmouth to be represented by this council… and interested citizen…Just sayn. Dave Reise
