My name is David Reise and I am running as a Republican for a seat on the Portsmouth Town Council.
I carry no agenda other than doing the best for Portsmouth. I know Portsmouth. I was born here and attended Portsmouth Schools. My father was Alvin Reise, who worked to support our family as an accountant. My mother, Eva Reise, was a stay-at-home mom who cared for my brother Jeffrey and I. Shortly after my high school graduation, my father passed away unexpectedly. Since he had always provided for our family, we suddenly had to support ourselves without much experience in doing so.
Through hard work and a tight budget, I put myself through college with almost no debt. First, I attended Wentworth Technical Institute and then I went on to Northeastern University where I earned my Mechanical Engineering degree. I spent one year working in the upper-valley region of New Hampshire near Dartmouth College. In 1980, I was offered an engineering position in Middletown at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, so I accepted the offer and came home.
While back in my old neighborhood I discovered that the farm I where I had worked as a kid was for sale by the original owner, so I made an offer and they accepted it. I’ve lived here ever since.
As Portsmouth grew I saw many changes. The rural character and rich history are part of what makes Portsmouth special, therefore I support efforts to maintain these characteristics. I served on the Charter Review Committee, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and I am currently the Secretary of the Conservation Commission.
Thanks to my life experiences, I have a good understanding of the value of money. First, I believe Town assets and services should be maintained to high standards. These include buildings, roads, beaches, grass trimming, snow plowing, etc. Undertaking new projects should be based on terms of necessity and long-term expanded costs. With my engineering and project management background, I will gather facts before I make any decisions.
I ask for your vote in the Portsmouth Town Council election, along with support for fellow candidates Dave Gleason, Sharlene Patton, and Keith Hamilton. Thanks for your time.

ABOUT: I live in Portsmouth with my wife, former Councilwoman Elizabeth Pedro. I was born in Portsmouth and attended Portsmouth schools. I have two adult children, Bethany and Matthew, who also attended Portsmouth schools and live in Portsmouth.
EDUCATION: I am a graduate of Wentworth and Northeastern Universities, receiving an Engineering/Program Management Degree. I graduated DEBT FREE by budgeting and working.
FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE: I will work to control spending and overbearing regulations. Decisions will be made only after gathering, organizing, and studying available facts.
OPEN SPACE ADVOCATE: I practice what I preach. I bought the farm I worked on as a kid from the original owners, dating back to 1914, and acquired additional adjacent land totalling 12 acres. This land is farmed, incorporating various animal habitats and open space. For this reason, I was awarded entry into the Stewardship Program from the National Resource Conservation Service Program. This is one of the few properties in this region selected for this program.
EXPERIENCE: I am a hands-on person with experience in farming, building, engineering, and restoration of antique cars.
