David M. Gleason
2024 PORTSMOUTH TOWN COUNCIL CANDIDATE
401.683.9653 dgleason@portsmouthri.gov or carman9653@hotmail.com
Currently serving on the Portsmouth Town Council, with almost eight years of service, I ask again for your vote for an additional two years. Having served three terms starting in 2012, I ran for office again in 2022. I find myself still working to complete some of the same goals that I had twelve years ago, namely preserving and maintaining the Glen Farm and associated properties, the various neglected Town-owned buildings and building two sports fields on the so-called 3S property on Sandy Point Ave. (approved by Portsmouth voters in 2007!).
Recent topics have included keeping the Transfer Station open for residents that choose to use it, while accommodating those that want curbside pickup. I also will continue to work to see that Portsmouth Seniors get the facility they deserve and I will continue to oppose a roundabout in front of Clements’ Market. In addition, I will support other issues affecting bicycle riders, including a path through Melville Campgrounds, to connect with Burma Road (studies and plan approved in 2014).
A little about myself, I am a forty-five year resident of Portsmouth. Having grown up on the island, I have been here for sixty-seven years and this is home. I started giving back to the Portsmouth community in 2004 when I joined my first Town Committee. I have served on the Solid Waste/Recycling, Charter Review, and Waste Water Management Committee, to name a few. I am a retired Engineer with Power Generation experience who opposes any high voltage cables in the Sakonnet River. I live in Common Fence Point (CFP) with former Councilor, Karen J. Gleason. There I am a Trustee of CFP-owned properties. I am a board member of the Portsmouth Historical Society and enjoy fixing and driving antique autos. My daughter, Jenny, and my son, Dave Jr., both Portsmouth grads, are professional teachers, and also reside in the CFP neighborhood. I have one grandson, John.
If you have any questions, please contact me by phone or email. Thank you for electing me in the past and for your consideration this November, 2024. I ask for your vote….David M. Gleason
