Re-Elect Sharlene Patton for Portsmouth Town Council

I am Sharlene Patton, and I respectfully ask for your support as I seek re-election to the Portsmouth Town Council.
As a lifelong Portsmouth resident, a small business owner, a parent, and a grandparent, I care deeply about our town’s future. My husband, Michael, and I own RI Hardwoods & Tile, LLC. Our roots run deep and giving back to this community has always been an important part of our lives.
Serving as your Town Councilor over the past two years has been an honor and a privilege. I have worked to listen to residents, do my homework, ask difficult questions, and make informed decisions. I believe every resident deserves to be heard and treated with respect, regardless of political affiliation.
During my first term, I have supported responsible budgets, our schools, first responders, and essential town services. Working with my fellow Councilors, I helped keep proposed budget increases under 3% for two consecutive years. I supported preserving Glen Park as open space, opposed Flock roadway cameras, and supported placing the question of nonpartisan local elections before voters. I also worked to improve access to local government through monthly Council office hours and an additional public comment opportunity at Council meetings.
My commitment to Portsmouth extends beyond the Council. I serve as President of the Portsmouth-Tiverton Rotary Club and as Town Council liaison to the Portsmouth Housing Authority, Parks & Recreation Committee, and Dog Park Committee. My community service also includes former service as Secretary of the Portsmouth Senior Center Board of Directors, volunteer & Board Member with Portsmouth Youth Football & Cheer, and service on the Rotary District Finance Committee.
As a Sunny Acres resident and Housing Authority liaison, I understand how important stable, affordable housing is to our seniors, working families, and young adults. I support preserving existing affordable homes and pursuing responsible housing solutions with clear information, careful planning, and meaningful resident input.
My priorities for the next two years are to:
- Protect taxpayers through responsible budgeting and careful oversight of town and enterprise funds.
- Preserve open space, including Glen Park, and Portsmouth’s rural character.
- Keep the Transfer Station open and improve its efficiency for residents.
- Support our schools, first responders, seniors, veterans, and families.
- Advocate for lasting affordable housing and responsible development.
- Improve pedestrian safety and pursue practical improvements with residents and state partners.
- Support local businesses and community organizations.
- Oppose offshore wind projects that negatively affect our community.
- Continue leading with honesty, transparency, accountability, and common sense.
There is more work to do, and I remain committed to being accessible, listening carefully, and working collaboratively on behalf of Portsmouth.
On November 3, I respectfully ask for your vote to re-elect Sharlene Patton—#3 on the ballot for Portsmouth Town Council.
